Start Right. Finish Strong.T
It's What We Say, And Do.
DWe've struggled to articulate what distinguishes Beyer Construction
from the competition, so we asked the experts - you. Your
answer: getting projects off on the right track with accurate
budgets and preconstruction consulting, and following through
to a quick closeout with enthusiasm and energy.
Recently, we have defined and organized these activities with
the tagline "Start Right. Finish Strong." It's a slogan we're
incorporating in our daily communications, from job signs
to mouse pads.
But it's more than just a slogan; it's a philosophy we embrace
and cultivate with every project in which we're involved.
The activities it encompasses represent a competitive advantage
we offer our customers, and it includes several new initiatives.
Starting Right
Our Start Right practices assure early on that all of the
construction team members - the project owner, architect and
our people - are on the same page, with the same goals and
expectations.
In the preconstruction phase of the project, we focus on planning,
role assignments, development of a preliminary construction
schedule, schematic design reports, budgeting, and establishing
milestones leading to the construction phase.
During our early involvement with the client and architect,
we review architectural plans and building systems for constructability
issues. If we detect problems, we offer time and cost-effective
alternative methods and/or materials to achieve the project's
objectives within its schedule and budget. In concert with
our value management services, it is often possible to reduce
costs in the process. The earlier we're involved in such analyses,
the higher the yield of our value engineering.
DoubleCheck System Helps Minimize Change Orders
One of our unique methods to ensure that projects start right
is our DoubleCheck
system, which touches on all aspects of our front-end services.
DoubleCheck is an interdisciplinary design and construction
review system that addresses the source of most errors and
omissions - the point where one trade or discipline intersects
with another.
With DoubleCheck, we're able to overlay the plans of various
trades with one another to see where there may be potential
conflicts. For example, do architectural drawings agree with
structural drawings' column locations and grid lines? Will
a planned ventilation duct run into a structural beam?
Learning as early as possible of inconsistencies (such as
electrical drawings indicating equipment with different horsepower
ratings, voltages and phases than mechanical drawings or specifications)
allows for more timely and less costly solutions. Just as
important, our innovative DoubleCheck system helps assure
that jobs are bid correctly, a critical key to minimizing
change orders.
Finishing Strong
To help assure that we finish each project with the same level
of enthusiasm and dedication with which we start, we have
developed a more comprehensive and organized approach to our
closeout procedures.
Team Beyer gives the "Thumbs
Up -
Start Right Finish Strong" high sign.
Some of our procedures are new and are currently
being implemented for the first time. Our intent is to provide
a level of value added services to our customers that goes
well beyond the standard punch list.
Unique Closeout Services
We're establishing a formalized turnover meeting to wrap up
all the loose ends at the conclusion of a project. Our turnover
includes a clean-sweep list of activities we formally pre-sent
to the owner, including a rigorous walk-through of the property.
We're even developing a "SWAT team" (Special Workers And Techniques)
approach to project closeouts to assure that customers are
satisfied, and to tend to any outstanding or overlooked items.
Enhanced Warranty Service
Standard industry practices provide a 12-month warranty upon
job completion. To add value to this practice, we'll be calling
and meeting with customers 11 months after they're issued
the letter of substantial completion. We instituted this policy
January 1 to help assure that any problems with warranted
materials and labor are addressed before the warranty expires.
