New Medical Center Serves Workers, Employers
One of Concentra Occupational Medical Centers'
five facilities in metro Milwaukee has moved from its National
Avenue location to a new building at 15465 W Howard Avenue
in New Berlin.
Concentra specializes in services related to Worker's Compensation
claims. Its services include physical therapy for injuries
sustained on the job, as well as pre-employment physical exams
and drug screening.
Concentra occupies one-third of its new 15,000 square foot
building and leases the remaining space. Wildflour Bakery
and Trenz Seekers Hair Salon have already moved in and negotiations
are proceeding with other prospective tenants.
Operating on a tight schedule, Beyer Construction broke ground
for the building last fall after helping Concentra locate
the siteand obtain the plan commission approval and building
permit. By securing the necessary authorizations in time for
a fall construction start, Concentra was able to avoid costly
lease penalties at its former location.
With the relatively late season start, wood trusses and decking
were used rather than the traditional steel joists and metal
decking. Steel orders placed in late summer and fall can result
in lengthy shipping times due to market demand and supply
conditions.
The $1.3 million building's architectural style, featuring
a brick and glass faqade with metal roofing, is in keeping
with the adjacent Moorland Square Shopping Center. The Medical
Center's pitched roof adds visual mass to the building and
helps to increase its identity from the road. Beyer Construction
selected Welman Architects Inc. as the architect for this
design/build project.
