Company History
Beyer
Construction was founded by Delyle (Del) G. Beyer in 1951
as a masonry subcontracting business. Del had worked for nine
years as a construction laborer and had completed a bricklayer
apprenticeship. He was eager to put his own ideas to work.
Much
of our early work was residential, and the company grew rapidly,
fueled by the post-war building boom and a reputation for
quality work. Soon we were building larger projects, and became
the prime contractor on more and more commercial projects.
Operating with large concrete and masonry crews, we completed
many schools, churches and commercial projects during the
next 30 years.
While
building Beyer Construction, Del was also pursuing some other
opportunities. Frustrated because concrete blocks had to be
unloaded by hand, one at a time, he worked with Best Block
Co. to devise a way to palletize the blocks and developed
a rough terrain forklift to transport the pallets from truck
to job site. In 1955, the Koehring Co. bought the patent rights,
placing the Kwik Mix Forklift on the market. Beyer Construction
received the first machine as part of the deal.
Del
also saw the opportunity to market lifting services to other
contractors, and introduced truck-mounted hydraulic cranes
to the Milwaukee construction market in the 1950s. Establishing
Allied Crane Service, which provided short-term crane rentals.
He also started Industrial Waste Corporation, a construction
site rubbish container service, in 1958.
Today
Beyer Construction is a full service construction firm, delivering
high image and technically difficult projects to corporate,
educational, religious, health care, elder care, and municipal
clients. Beyer builds in a variety of ways that meet the needs
of our clients, including construction management, design-build
and general contracting.
